''The Colors of Azerbaijan: Land of Multiculturalism'' exhibition took place in Brussels

On 23 April, the Cercle Royal Gaulois hosted an exhibition by Azerbaijani photographer Etibar Jafarov.

Entitled “The Colours of Azerbaijan: Land of Multiculturalism,” the exhibition showcased the rich cultural diversity of Azerbaijan and highlighted the country’s longstanding traditions of tolerance, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence among its various communities.

The event provided an opportunity for distinguished guests to engage with Azerbaijan’s multicultural heritage through a series of evocative photographic works, reflecting the nation’s commitment to intercultural dialogue and understanding.

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Vagif Sadigov emphasized that multiculturalism is an integral part of Azerbaijan’s state policy, noting that the preservation, development, and international promotion of these values remain among the country’s key priorities. He underlined that such cultural initiatives contribute to raising global awareness of Azerbaijan’s rich heritage and its model of tolerance.

In his speech, photographer Etibar Jafarov spoke in detail about the beginnings of his artistic career, his creative explorations, and the conceptual and philosophical essence of the works on display. He noted that the main goal of the project is to present Azerbaijan’s multicultural identity and cultural diversity to an international audience.

Professor Philippe Humble of the Free University of Brussels highlighted the growing importance of multiculturalism in the modern system of international relations, stating that Azerbaijan’s policy in this field is of particular academic and practical interest. He stressed that Azerbaijan’s model of multiculturalism serves as an important example not only regionally but also globally, in terms of study and application. Professor Humble also noted that the photographs presented at the exhibition carry an important academic and cultural message as visual expressions of these values, contributing to greater mutual understanding and trust between societies.

Belgian political commentator Michel Ivor, in his remarks, praised the exhibition’s high artistic and aesthetic level, noting that the photographs vividly and effectively reflect Azerbaijan’s rich cultural diversity and traditions of tolerance.

The exhibition was accompanied by performances of classical music by Azerbaijani and international composers, performed by Azerbaijani musicians based in Belgium, further enriching the overall artistic concept of the event.
