Head of the Press Service Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Leyla Abdullayeva answers the media's question on the proposal made by the President of the Council of the European Union to hold a meeting of Azerbaijani and Armenian leaders within the upcoming Eastern Partnership Summit
Answer: As you know, President of the Council of the European Union Charles Michel had telephone conversations with President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan on 19 November 2021, and the President of the EU Council proposed to hold a meeting of the leaders of the two countries within the framework of the Eastern Partnership Summit to be held in Brussels on 15 December of this year.
The Azerbaijani side is always open to political dialogue and welcomes such contacts. In this regard, the Azerbaijani side agreed to the proposal of the President of the EU Council to organize a meeting of the leaders of the two countries mediated by the EU within the framework of the Brussels Summit.
The position of Azerbaijan in the light of post-conflict realities has been repeatedly voiced by our President, including on the international platform. In this regard, we believe that the Brussels Summit and the meeting to be held in this context will create additional opportunities.
