Khojaly genocide victims commemorated in Brussels
The Azerbaijan House in Brussels hosted an event commemorating the victims of the Khojaly genocide on the 34th anniversary of the tragedy.
Co-organized by the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Belgium, the Azerbaijan House in Brussels and Azerbaijani diaspora organizations, the event was attended by members of the Azerbaijani community living in various cities of Belgium, embassy staff, and students.
The event began with a minute of silence in memory of Azerbaijani martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the territorial integrity of the country, as well as the victims of Khojaly.
Emin Rustamov, First Secretary of the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Brussels provided insight into the Khojaly genocide, stressing the importance of not forgetting this tragedy by the international community.
He also highlighted the significance of "Justice for Khojaly!" international campaign, which aims to raise awareness about the crimes against humanity and against the civilian population of Khojaly committed by Armenians on February 26, 1992.
“The historical Azerbaijani territories were liberated from occupation during the 44-day Patriotic War. As a result of the local anti-terrorist measures on September 19-20, 2023, the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan were fully ensured. With the liberation of Khojaly, the historical justice was restored,” he emphasized.
Emin Aliyev, Coordinator of the Coordination Council of Azerbaijanis in Belgium and Founder of the "Madani" Platform operating in Belgium; Aliagha Sultanov, co-founder of the Azerbaijani Cultural Association BUTAM also addressed the event, describing the Khojaly genocide as an unforgettable page in the history of humanity.
The speakers highlighted the importance of commemorating the victims of Khojaly, stressing the need for the international community to make joint efforts to prevent such a tragedy from happening again.
The event featured the screening of a documentary about Khojaly tragedy and a video by pianist, conductor, and composer Abuzar Manafzadeh's work "To Khojaly."
The participants also viewed a photo exhibition dedicated to the Khojaly tragedy.
