Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov received the delegation led by Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy

 

Foreign Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadyarov received the delegation led by Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice-President of the European Commission.

At the meeting the sides exchanged views on the current status of the relations and prospects of development between Azerbaijan and the EU, expressed mutual interest for the development of cooperation. 

Minister Elmar Mammadyarov noted that Azerbaijan has strategic relations with the most Member States of the EU and our country remains interested in the development of cooperation at the strategic level and in this regard recalled the draft of agreement on Strategic Partnership, which was presented to the EU Commission. 

Federica Mogherini expressed the willingness of the European Union to broaden cooperation with Azerbaijan, adding that there is great potential to develop relations in the fields of energy, transport and agriculture. High Representative also stressed the importance of development of cooperation in the social and education fields and noted that the EU will continue technical assistance to this end. Federica Mogherini said that Azerbaijan has big potential to be a main trade partner of the EU in the region and also emphasized Azerbaijan's contributions to the intercultural dialogue.

At the meeting the sides noted that the implementation of East-West transport corridor which will link the railways of regional countries and underlined that it will be beneficial for both sides from economic point of view. The sides also expressed the assurances that the project will contribute to the development of trade and economic relations.

Minister Elmar Mammadyarov briefed about the settlement process of Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict, and underlined that the attempts to change the internationally recognized borders of states by use of force are unacceptable.

Federica Mogherini expressed the support of the European Union to the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan and mentioned that through the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus EU is trying to contribute to the settlement of the conflict.

At the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the regional and global issues of mutual interest.
