Participation of Azerbaijani athletes in the Special Olympics 2014 in Antwerp, Belgium and organisation of the 1st European Games 2015 in Baku

 

On September 12, 2014, a special event dedicated to the participation of Azerbaijani athletes in the Special Olympic Games – 2014, hosted by Belgium, took place in the city of Lommel with the organisational support of the Embassy of Azerbaijan to Belgium and Luxembourg and the Ministry of Youth and Sport of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

A monument featuring 6 different sports, in which Azerbaijani athletes took part in the Special Olympic Games - 2014, has been inaugurated during the official ceremony. City of Lommel earned the right to be home to this monument as the host city of Azerbaijani athletes. 

Minister of Youth and Sport of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Azad Rahimov, Mayor of Lommel Mr. Peter Vanvelthoven and Ambassador Fuad Isgandarov delivered speeches at the inauguration ceremony and praised the monument dedicated to the participation of Azerbaijani athletes which symbolizes excellent relations between two countries and underlined the contribution of these contacts in further development of bilateral relations between two countries in all spheres.  

After the official ceremony participants visited the photo exhibition dedicated to the development of sport in Azerbaijan. Afterwards participants enjoyed the concert of Youth Chamber Orchestra of the Baku National Music Academy named after Uzeyir Hajibeyli. Both Azerbaijani and world classic music were performed at the concert.  

On September 13, 2014 the concert of Youth Chamber Orchestra dedicated to the First European Games to be held in 2015 in Baku, was organised at the Museum of Musical Instruments. Concert was attended by the members of diplomatic corps in Belgium, representatives of various Belgian institutions and Azerbaijani diaspora living in Belgium.
